Here is a note from Jessie's Family:

"This event means so much to our family as it is a way to carry on the memory of a beautiful soul gone too soon while helping out others who are in need. If you had the chance to know Jessica personally, you know that she was a very compassionate, kind, and selfless person who would do whatever she could to help others in need. Blood and organ donation was important to her which is a big reason why we continue to schedule blood drives in her memory.

As many of you may already know, our family has been given another encouragement to consider when donating this year. In July, our family was forced to face another challenging stretch when our 2-year-old granddaughter, Jessica Lee was diagnosed with a rare form of liver cancer. From the very beginning of her diagnosis, Jessica received critical blood and platelet transfusions. Throughout her treatment and transplant process, she received over twelve lifesaving blood transfusions and two platelet transfusions. Throughout those transfusions, she gained strength, personality, and life because of them. We can’t thank her donors enough for their generosity.

With our own personal reasoning to continue hosting annual blood drives in the memory of Jessica, there are other factors to consider. Every two seconds, someone in the US needs blood. Approximately 36,000 units of red blood cells are needed every day. The average red blood cell transfusion is approximately three units. It is essential for surgeries, cancer treatment, chronic illnesses, and traumatic injuries. One donation can potentially save up to three lives. When a person chooses to donate blood, their body will replace the volume of blood lost within 48 hours of donation by producing new cells. To ensure a successful donation, eat iron-rich foods, be well-rested, and make sure to hydrate your body. The blood you donate gives someone another chance at life. Give the gift of life and choose to donate blood."
